Jalen Penrose always expected to be a basketball player. He hit six feet by the time he was a middle schooler and grew to six feet eight when he got to high school. With a volleyball coach for a mom, his path quickly changed. Since he always strived to play professional sports, Penrose chose to attend Penn State as a volleyball player despite several college basketball offers. As a Nittany Lion, Penrose has allowed his volleyball career to take over his life and he loves every minute of it. While his dreams of playing both professionally, overseas, and earning a spot on the U.S. Olympic team are still ways away, Penrose is working diligently to show his school, coaches and the rest of the volleyball world what he can do. While Penrose admits, it gets tough living up to the expectations of being a Division I athlete, he has only become closer to the sport since deciding to move up to the next level.
