Penn State in the NFL: Week Four

Week four in the National Football League is in the books and former Nittany lions make an impact for their respective teams. On Thursday Night, San Francisco 49ers Linebacker Navorrro Bowman made his presence known in St. Louis. Bowman had six tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble in the 49ers 35-11 win over the Rams, placing him as the front-runner for defensive player of the week.   

San Francisco linebacker Nathan Stupar, also contributed to the victory gathering three tackles while filling a void for the injured Pro-Bowl linebacker Patrick Willis.

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee had an impressive game racking up a career best 18 tackles along with returning an interception for 52 yards for a touchdown thrown by Phillip Rivers. 

In New Orleans, Miami defensive end Jared Odrick, registered five tackles and had a sack as Miami fell 38-17 to the Saints to receive their first loss of the season on Monday Night Football .

The dominance of the “Linebacker U” product continued in Jacksonville. In a battle of division rivals, Paul Posluszny, collected nine tackles along with a deflected pass thrown by Andrew Luck. The Jaguars lost 37-3 to the Indianapolis Colts.  

In Detroit, Robbie Gould, who hasn’t missed a field goal this season, went 3-3 on field goal attempts. The field goals included a 34-yard field goal to give his team the early lead. Gould has been a huge part in the early season success of the Bears

It was big day for Kansas City, as the undefeated Chiefs topped the winless Giants 31-7. Chiefs linebacker Tamba Hali, contributed to the victory producing four tackles and applying pressure to Giants quarterback Eli Manning forcing a fumble.

In Oakland, Raiders defensive end Jack Crawford recorded four tackles in the Raiders 24-14 loss to the Washington Redskins.

Minnesota linebacker, Gerald Hodges, recorded his first career tackle, and fellow linebacker, Mike Mauti, added his first two NFL tackles in the Vikings 34-27 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in London. 

In Cleveland, Bengals defensive tackle Devon Still produced one tackle in Cincinnati’s 17-6 loss to the Browns.

List of Penn State players who were either inactive, saw limited on field action, did not play, or even had the week off with the first bye week of the season; Seattle defensive tackle Jordan Hill did not play due to injury. Oakland quarter back Matthew McGloin, San Diego center Rich Ohrnberger and guard Johnnie Troutman, Green Bay tight end Andrew Quarless, Washington running back Evan Royster, Atlanta tight end Andrew Szczerba, Miami defensive end Cameron Wake, Baltimore center A.Q. Shipley, Pittsburgh wide receiver Derek Moye. Carolina Fullback Michael Zordich, remains sidelined on the Panthers injured reserve due to a torn ACL.
