Gridiron Girls: Week 8

Story posted November 2, 2018 in CommRadio, Sports by Carolyn Sistrand, Stephanie Naranjo and Ariel Simpson

Football analysts Carolyn Sistrand and Ariel Simpson discuss week eight on ComRadio’s first all-
girl football podcast, Gridiron Girls:

The New York Giants suffered another tough loss, falling 1-7 on the season. The Redskins offense shut down
Giants quarterback Eli Manning, who was sacked seven times on Sunday and making his total on
the season 31.

Tampa Bay announced that Ryan Fitzpatrick will be taking back the starting spot he once held
earlier this season. Quarterback Jameis Winston’s return to Buccaneers is short-lived after four
interceptions against the Bengals, totaling nine on the season. Fitzpatrick came back in to
bring the Buccaneers close, but they would fall to the Bengals by three points.

The Cleveland Browns also fire head coach Hue Jackson, along with offensive coordinator Todd Haley after
Cleveland’s loss to Pittsburgh on Sunday. Although Jackson led the Browns to their first win in
an almost two-year drought, it still wasn’t enough to revive this struggling Browns organization.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and the rest of the Steelers organization shows up
strong for their city, which is currently grieving from the horrific events that had occurred the day
before at the Tree of Life synagogue.

The NFC East is the division to watch, and not for the reasons one would hope. Each team is
fairly neck and neck, having some bad games and winning others. There is no clear team on
top, although the Redskins hold the best record and are having an unexpectedly good season
thus far. Should the Eagles recent win in London over the Jaguars prove that they are still in the race for the top of the division? Could it be too earlier to predict the outcomes from the NFC East?
