Valee - GOOD Job, You Found Me EP Review

Story posted March 8, 2018 in Arts & Entertainment by Jerome Taylor.

GOOD Job, You Found Me is the debut studio EP from Chicago rapper, Valee. Currently, mainstream rap songs are becoming more chorus heavy than ever before and Valee adds to that movement with his six-track EP.

Valee recently signed to G.O.O.D Music in February, which might explain the capitalized “GOOD” in the project’s title. This EP serves as an introduction for the label’s new signee and, considering the impact of the timeframe between Desiigner’s first hit and his first project, it is no surprise to see the label push this EP out so quickly after the signing.

GOOD Job, You Found Me contains all the braggadocio you would expect to find in a mainstream rapper, but Valee’s cool delivery is what is going to separate him. No matter if it’s over the laid-back beat on “VLONE” or the gritty beat on “Skinny,” Valee never seems out of his element. Even when he shares a track with hip hop veteran Pusha T on “Miami,” he is unfazed and confidently delivers an incredibly catchy chorus.
Other than “Shell,” Valee only delivers one verse on every track of the project. He clearly seems to put almost all of his focus on the chorus of his tracks. This creates very short songs, none of which go over three minutes, with the closest being “Miami” and that features the aforementioned verse by Pusha T. The length of Valee’s tracks doesn’t allow his songs to drag on to the point that they aren’t enjoyable, a problem that some mainstream rappers are faced with constantly.

Valee will never become one of the greatest rappers, but on GOOD Job, You Found Me, he put together six enjoyable tracks. If Valee can continue to use his distinct voice and calm flow to construct catchy choruses, he can find himself on some of the more popular songs in the future.
