Matthew Potts, a fifth year senior is cymbal player in the Penn State Blue Band. Potts auditioned to be a member of the blue band in 2016 and he did not make it. He auditioned again in 2017 and made it. He was asked to be a cymbal guide for the 2018 and 2019 football seasons. He also served as a cymbal player for the Hockey Pep Band.

Potts described how being in the Blue Band has many benefits. He said that he used it to his advantage by putting it on his resume because he had a small leadership position. He also said that he enjoyed traveling to different places and performing for many fans besides Penn Staters. He described playing at Michigan State this past season and he also played at the Cotton Bowl.
