A ceremony was held on Sunday, November, 11 at 11 a.m. on the Old Main patio to honor veterans of the United States armed forces.

John MacMillen was the bagpipe player for the event. He is also a veteran who served in Vietnam and was part of the Tet Offensive—a particularly violent attack by the Viet Cong on the entire country of Vietnam that stunned U.S. troops during what was supposed to be a two-day cease fire during Tet Lunar New Year celebrations.

MacMillen said he took up the bagpipe after hearing a bagpipe player at his father’s funeral in 2002. He learned to play on his own and joined a band. Now, he’s the pipe sergeant of the Jaffa Highlanders band out of Altoona and has received instruction from world champion bagpipers.
