The Self-Taught Musician

Story posted November 10, 2014 in News by Bessie Floresgomez

Henley Kim is a self-taught Korean musician who learned how to play piano at the age of three. She did not speak until she was 11 years old so music helped her communicate with the world.

At age 13 she lost hearing in her left ear in a car accident. Since she was not able to hear properly she could not enter a music school to continue her music education and learn how to compose so she started teaching herself by pushing every single key on a keyboard until she got the sounds she liked.

She says music has helped her express her emotions and communicate with people since she is a very shy person.
