Incumbent Keller and Democratic Challenger on Ballot for House
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — A seat in the U.S. House of Representatives is on ballots in Centre County this fall.
Republican Fred Keller is the incumbent for the 12th Congressional District of Pennsylvania. Keller is vying for a second term, but he faces a challenge from Democrat Lee Griffin, an Indiana University of Pennsylvania graduate with a background in warehousing and distribution.
Keller says that careful budgeting is a must in Congress’ efforts to provide aid during the pandemic.
“We’re not going to be the ones paying all that money back,” Keller said. “It’s the kids in college, so the decisions we make as elected officials, we need to make sure we keep in mind who are paying these bills.”
Keller warns that college students like the ones at Penn State could be affected by relief spending that doesn’t directly pertain to COVID-19.
Griffin states that he is not a career politician but rather a normal Pennsylvanian who understands hard work and making difficult decisions in business. He prioritizes the expansion of healthcare coverage, and wants to bring down the costs of prescription medications.
Both candidates have goals of improving state infrastructure and point out that access to modern methods of communications is lacking in rural areas of the 12th District.
“Looking at infrastructure, very important broadband internet access in rural america, and right across PA itself is so important,” Keller said.
