When Stephan Burns picked up the guitar at age five, he did not know how large of an impact the instrument would have on his life.  Although he started taking lessons in kindergarten, Burns said his passion for music intensified during his early teens.  He enrolled in a performing arts school that split time focusing on academics and music.  The opportunity served as “not only a learning experience, but a chance to be around other musicians,” Burns said.

Now a junior at Penn State, Burns continues to make music.  He has played with multiple bands, which posed a new challenge. No one was providing him with sheet music or instructions. “It was different because now it was on me to provide the material,” he said.    Burns considers music “a stress reliever“ and an outlet to avoid keeping feelings “bottled up.”
