DJ Plays Not-So Mainstream Music on Student Radio

Between the hours of 6 and 8 PM on Sunday Evening, Nathan Gillepsie turns into DJ TK, on Penn State’s student radio station, The LION 90.7 FM. While Gillepsie is no longer a student at Penn State, having graduated in 2008, he still remains heavily involved in the station he fell in love with when he was a student. TK’s music that he plays on his show, “Altered State”, is definitely not what you would find on mainstream radio, as he plays several different electronic sounds. Very few of the music he plays includes vocals, and as Gillepsie says on the air it is the type of music that “leave you scratching your head, even as your brain is bizzly dripping out your ears”.

Cody is a senior majoring in Broadcast Journalism and minoring in Business Liberal Arts. He hopes to enter the sports media industry, specifically play-by-play broadcasting on the radio. During his time at Penn State, Cody has done play-by-play for multiple sports and hosted several radio shows on Penn State’s student-run FM radio station, The LION 90.7 FM. Currently, he serves as the Sports Director at The LION, which requires him to manage all of the sports staff and generate the schedules. He also has served as the station’s Finance Director since the beginning of the 2014 school year. Cody has also interned for State College’s ESPN Radio 1450, where he called State High baseball games.
