UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Global Entrepreneurship Week is in full swing here in Happy Valley now through Nov. 15. This year marks the 10-year anniversary of celebrating the relationship between university members and local entrepreneur communities. Throughout the week, students were able to engage in presentations, workshops and other opportunities to learn more on achieving their goals of being an entrepreneur.

In the Biobehavioral Health Building on Thursday, students and faculty heard form a successful entrepreneur herself, Tanya Wright. Wright is most commonly known for her role as Crystal Burset in the hit show, “Orange Is the New Black." However, her achievements spread much farther than acting.

She also founded “HAIRiette," a hair company specifically designed for caring for curly and dry hair types. Wright’s company took off and she later received SoBro’s award for “Most Innovative Business." Penn State Student and member of Happy Valley Communications, Corrina Findlay, has been looking forward to hearing from someone as accomplished as Wright.

“It’s really great that we have a figure like her on campus just for students to see firsthand and learn from," Findlay said. "I think it’s a great opportunity not only for Penn States publicity, but also for Global Entrepreneurship Week and to kind of get the name out there."

Global Entrepreneurship Week has been successful for many years now thanks to the hard work and dedication from numerous volunteers for the event. Penn State sophomore Annalise Mara, who is majoring in AD/PR,  said that when she heard about the event in class, she knew she had to get involved.

“We’re here to volunteer and make sure everything runs smoothly like broadcasting it on Facebook and in person," Mara said. "So, I am looking forward to getting to know some of the speakers."

Global Entrepreneurship Week is ongoing through next week and will continue to host presentations for students and faculty who are interested on gaining the top insight on entrepreneurship.
