Penn State Players in the NFL: Week 5
As the fifth week of the NFL season comes to a close, Penn State continues to be represented on the field. Big names such as Chris Godwin, Allen Robinson and Adrian Amos were all on bye weeks and did not play. Sean Lee and Cameron Wake also sustained injuries prior to Sunday and were therefore inactive. Still, there were some notable performances by former Nittany Lions.
Saquon Barkley:
Barkley continued his campaign towards Rookie of the Year with another huge performance in week five. The rookie totaled 48 yards rushing and 81 yards receiving along with two receiving touchdowns. One of which came from Odell Beckham on a 57-yard trick play. In the end, the Giants lost in heartbreaking fashion to the Panthers 33-31. Saquon had a bit of an injury scare late in the fourth quarter but has since confirmed that he’s okay.
DaSean Hamilton:
The fourth-round pick for the Broncos did not see a target all season until week five. He made the most of his three targets on Sunday, catching all of them for 44 yards. However, the Broncos lost a one-sided game to the Jets, 34-16. Hamilton showed promise though and could be looking to take up the third spot in the depth chart behind Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders in the coming weeks.
Austin Johnson and DaQuan Jones:
The two defensive tackles for the Tennessee Titans played well in their 13-12 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Both Johnson and Jones tallied their season high in tackles respectively. DaQuan Jones notched six tackles and three assists while Austin Johnson had five tackles. The two made their first real impact on the season and look to continue to do so as the season goes on.
Ex- Nittany Lions are persistent in showing us their talent every week. Their potential is well known, and we should be hearing of more big performances from previous Penn State football players in the forthcoming weeks.
