UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – One of the activities that helped celebrate Penn State’s 100th homecoming was the Best of Penn State Carnival. From 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, the HUB Lawn had many students, staff and visitors enjoying the different activities present.

The Best of Penn State Carnival included activities such as carnival rides, inflatables, escape rooms, face painting and more. The public was also able to enjoy a variety of free snacks, such as snow cones, popcorn and cotton candy.

Megan Kiel, the merchandise director of the homecoming student board, said that the merchandise committee is selling different clothing items to help fundraise for future homecomings and promote the new logo of Penn State’s homecoming which features the words “A Century of Stories.”

“This is the first year that we actually have carnival rides,” Kiel said. “I think [the carnival] is a chance for students to take a break from class and just hang out, try some food, and, especially, meet some of the community members because there are a lot of families here.”

Many students assisted with the carnival, including Aliah Walls, a junior majoring in broadcast journalism. Walls enjoyed the rides with her friends and said that she is glad that Penn State does events like this one.

“I definitely feel that this is a good outlet, having healthy options, being able to ride rides with your friends,” Walls said. “Us college students need that once in a while.”

While partaking in the free rides and free carnival food, people visiting the homecoming carnival were also able to enjoy performances from Penn State students and multiple organizations.
