STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The Centre County Democratic Committee held a candidate school meeting Saturday morning to help train those interested in running for public office. The school presented information the candidates would need to get started in their potential runs.

Penn State student Ava Bosco became involved with the Democratic Candidate School after being on the leadership team for Get Out That Vote.

Bosco’s passion for politics has led her to doing community focused training and events such as the Democratic Candidate School which helps those running for office.

“We’re here to offer [potential candidates] support because what’s really important about running for office is having people tell you that you should run for office in the first place, which often times doesn’t happen,” Bosco said.

Colleen Kennedy is interested in running for Centre County Treasurer.

“I’ve been interested in running more recently with the political climate such as it is. It’s encouraged me to be more active in local politics,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy says her background qualifies her for running office.

“I have a background in finance and accounting so it’s sort of a nice combination of getting into running for a political office and doing something that meshes with my professional expertise,” Kennedy said.
