Former Penn State men’s hockey forward Ashton Calder signed with the Bridgeport Islanders, the AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, early Tuesday morning.

Calder spent his fifth and final collegiate season repping the blue and white, putting up 10 goals and 38 points in 38 games and helping the Nittany Lions reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Before playing at Penn State, Calder played one season at North Dakota after three seasons at Lake Superior State, producing 21 points in 34 games.

As a Laker, the 6-foot-2 forward produced 79 points in 107 games from 2018-2021 and served as an alternate captain during his junior season while putting up a career-high in goals and points with 16 and 27 respectively.

His production and leadership helped the Lakers win the 2021 WCHA championship and he was named Tournament MVP in the process.

The Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. native made his professional debut in the ECHL with the Florida Everblades in April, tallying six points in 17 playoff games en route to a 2023 Kelly Cup championship.
