Nate Sucese has arguably been the most consistent and productive player on the Penn State men’s hockey team as of late. Sucese is currently riding a six game point streak, and he is beginning to establish himself as a valuable asset for Penn State as his freshman campaign winds down.

Prior to this season, Sucese spent two years as a member of the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the United States Hockey League, registering 38 goals and 48 assists for 86 total points in 111 games played. Sucese led his team to a third place finish in the USHL Eastern Conference in the 2015-16 season with 26 goals and 33 assists for 59 points, which was good for seventh in the league. He was later named to the All-USHL Second-Team for the 2015-16 season.

As a freshman this season, Sucese has compiled 26 points, good for fifth on the team. He has played a significant role in leading Penn State to its best season as a Division I program thus far. Penn State is also currently the highest scoring team in college hockey.

Sucese may not garner the attention of fellow teammate Denis Smirnov, or other great players around the Big Ten, but Sucese’s point total currently ranks fourth among Big Ten freshmen.

Last weekend against Michigan State, Sucese tallied two goals and an assist in the series, as the Nittany Lions swept the Spartans in East Lansing to take possession of third place in the Big Ten standings.

Penn State will play host to Wisconsin this weekend in its final couple of contests at Pegula this season. The Badgers are currently in second place in the conference, five points ahead of the Nittany Lions.

In the previous series between the two teams, Sucese contributed 2 goals and 3 assists to propel the Lions to a sweep over Wisconsin in Madison. A similar result this weekend would catapult Penn State to second place in the conference and put them in great position to earn a first round bye in the Big Ten tournament.
