The top-ranked Penn State women's volleyball team (8-1) continued their dominance this season, as they knocked off the Eastern Kentucky Colonels (4-8) in straight sets.

Senior middle hitter Katie Slay, led the Nittany Lion attack chalking up 11 kills, and was followed by senior outside hitters Ariel Scott and Deja McClendon who chimed in 10 apiece.

Penn State started the match by jumping out to a quick 12-4 lead over the Colonels, which was highlighted with five of Katie Slay's eleven kills, followed by two blocks and a dig. The Nittany Lions capped off the set with a monstrous spike by sophomore setter/outside hitter Megan Courtney, that gave Penn State the 25-10 victory for the set.

Eastern Kentucky took a quick timeout halfway through the second set, after the Nittany Lions jumped out to a another quick lead. It was to no avail as the Lions took the set 25-8.

In the third set the Colonels came out of the gates firing, falling behind early but then managing to tie the set for the first time in the entire match. The score was 7-7, which Eastern Kentucky then turned into an 8-7 lead that turned out being their only one of the day.

But Penn State showed their relentlessness and locked up the match in straight sets behind a great performance from junior defensive specialist Dominque Gonzalez, who starred while tallying 19 digs, which helped lead the Nittany Lions to 25-19 victory in the third set to seal the deal.

The Nittany Lions, now 8-1 on the season, look to build on their six-game win streak against the 5-2 Yale Bulldogs, tonight starting at 8 P.M. in Rec Hall.
