Ohio State Hands Penn State Men’s Soccer First Conference Loss

The No. 9 Penn State men’s soccer team (11-4-1) dominated possession and the shot battle, but ran out of overtime magic, as they lost to Ohio State (5-6-5) on the road 1-0, in double OT. The Buckeyes ended Penn State’s five game winning streak and handed the Nittany Lions their first Big Ten loss.

The Nittany Lions had possession of the ball for almost the entire first half, with 14 shots to Ohio State’s two. Penn State finished with 27 shots, but could not solve the Buckeye defense. Ohio State’s goalkeeper, Alex Ivanov, finished the game with five saves and the shutout.

 While dominating possession and shots, Penn State still could not punch it through. Randy Falk nearly had a goal in double overtime,e but the ball deflected off the post. Ohio State answered quickly after with the game-winning goal, from freshman Danny Jensen in the 107th minute, to seal the game for the Buckeyes. Penn State travels to No. 17 Akron, Wednesday night, to finish up their regular season.
