Kyle Long next in family to make impact in NFL
If you’re in a movie theater on draft weekend, you might just run into Oregon offensive lineman Kyle Long. Long says he plans to have a movie marathon rather than watch the NFL Draft.
But what about when we he gets drafted and he’s sitting in a movie theater?
“Hopefully my phone will ring,” Long said. “I will definitely not have it on vibrate.”
Long, the son of NFL great Howie Long and brother of current Rams defensive end Chris Long, is a hot offensive line prospect for the 2013 NFL Draft because of his athleticism and versatility.
“The more versatile you are, the more value you have a player,” Long said while noting NFL teams only travel with seven offensive linemen.
Long is projected as a second round pick and could be on the board when the Philadelphia Eagles are picking. The Eagles are now coached by Long’s college coach at Oregon, Chip Kelly.
“It’s a lot of fun to play for Coach Kelly because you get to score a lot,” Long said. “It would be priceless to be able to go play for him.”
Long’s and Kelly’s Oregon career came to a close with a win in the Fiesta Bowl and Long said he began working out for the NFL Draft just two days later in Los Angeles.
“The season never really ends,” he said. “For now, I’m just trying to make a team.”
