Week Nine Heisman Watch

Story posted November 2, 2015 in CommRadio, Sports by Abhar Shah

With only five weeks left in college football, all the top candidates are doing whatever they can to get to the number one spot. Even with Leonard Fournette being the obvious front runner, all the players under him continue to impress anyone who watches them.

Leonard Fournette (RB, LSU)
Stats: 1,352 yards on 7.7 yards per carry and 15 touchdowns.
Last week standing: 1

There isn’t much to say because LSU has a bye week but anyone who has watched LSU or even followed college football a little would know that Fournette is going to win the Heisman this year (Barring any injuries). Fournette is going to take on his biggest challenge as LSU will travel to Alabama to take on the Crimson Tide.

Trevone Boykin (QB, TCU)
Stats: 198-287 for 2,927 yards, 28 touchdowns and five interceptions.
Last week standing: 2

Boykin had another impressive outing as the Horned Frogs blew West Virginia off the field. Boykin had 32 completions for 388 yards and three touchdowns. He also used his speed to run for 84 yards and one touchdown. Boykin is the best quarterback in college and he continues to show us how dual threat quarterbacks still dominate. Heck, the kid is so good that the West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen couldn’t do anything but give him a high five after he broke a couple of tackles and got a first down.

Boykin will look to have another good game as TCU travels to Oklahoma to take on Oklahoma State.

Corey Coleman (WR, Baylor)
Stats: 47 receptions for 18 touchdowns on 20.5 yards per carry
Last week standing: 3

Baylor also had a bye this week but Coleman still has a spot at number 3 on the Heisman watch. Even though Coleman probably won’t win this year’s Heisman, he is making a great case for any NFL scout who needs a great receiver.

His next challenge will be against Kansas State and if Seth Russell comes back healthy, expect Coleman to have another solid game.

Ezekiel Elliott (RB, Ohio State)
Stats: 1,130 yards on 6.8 yards per carry and 13 touchdowns.
Last week standing: 4

Another top Heisman candidate had a bye this week. Elliot and the Buckeyes might have a really messed up quarterback situation now but the running game continues to be the strongest part of the offense. Even though Elliot hasn’t played as well as he was projected to in the beginning of the season, he has consistently carried this team on his back rushing for 100+ yards in each game.

His next challenge will be against Minnesota and without J.T. Barrett under center, expect Elliot to get plenty of touches.

Honorable Mentions:
Seth Russell (QB, Baylor)
Baker Mayfield (QB, Oklahoma)
Dalvin Cook (RB, FSU)
