Max Rohn is a veteran Navy Hospital Corpsman with a passion for medicine. In 2009, Rohn retired from the Navy after a rocket-propelled grenade hit his teams Humvee in Iraq, which caused a severe injury on his right leg. After a few surgeries it was decided that his leg should be amputated. He is currently studying biomedical engineering at Penn State and has found a new outlet for himself with the Ability Athletics program led by Terry Jordan. Rohn made it onto the Paralympic Track and Field National Team in 2013 for shot put but also is involved in throwing discus and javelin. He trains for competitions five days a week and is in the running for the 2016 Paralympic Games.

Preparing your stance is very important in javelin because if an athlete is just the slightest bit off it can significantly affect the distance and angle at which the javelin is thrown. / Photo by Ashley Cummings
