NFL Game of the Week: Seattle Seahawks vs. San Francisco 49ers
Week 10 of the NFL is here and San Francisco takes on the Seahawks this weekend. These division foes have a long historyand this will be the 41st meeting between the two. The Seahawks lead the all-time series 25-16.
These have been the two best teams in not only the NFC but the NFL. The 7-2 Seahawks are led by MVP favorite Russell Wilson who is having the season of a lifetime. He has a solid 68.3 percent completion percentage along with 2505 yards, 22 touchdowns, and just one interception. On top of this, he has 203 yards on the ground with three more TDs.
The rest of the Seahawks offense is filled with talent as well. Through the air Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf have 767 and 525 yards respectively. The rushing game is also very dangerous as Chris Carson has 764 yards on the ground and three touchdowns. This is an offense that ranks fourth in yards per game and seventh in points per game and could very well be one of the few offenses that can successfully get past the 49ers defense.
This Seahawks offense will have their toughest test yet as they are taking on the 49ers, who are the top-ranked defense in all of football in yards per game. This defense is a huge reason why the 49ers are still undefeated eight games into this season.
One of their biggest playmakers is rookie Nick Bosa. Not only Rookie of the Year candidate but also Defensive Player of the Year candidate because he has been a game-wrecker with seven sacks and 12 tackles for loss.
On the other side of the ball, coming off an ACL surgery, Jimmy Garoppolo looks like he has not missed a beat. The bigger story on offense has been the tandem of Matt Breida and Tevin Coleman at running back. The ground-and-pound attack has been the key for the 49ers offense this year. Though the defense has been the story thus far, the 49ers offense has also been extremely explosive. They rank seventh in yards per game but third in points per game, one mark higher than the Seahawks.
Up to this point in the season, the 49ers have clearly shown to be the more consistent team. They have played some solid competition in teams like the Steelers, Rams, and Panthers all who have .500 or better records and have handled them well overall. The defense, as stated earlier, has been the key in all those games and they will need to step up again against a dominant Seahawks offense.
The Seahawks have looked a little less consistent. They have taken down the Rams and Steelers but struggled in many other games. The ugly win over the winless Bengals by only one point does not look good, but the biggest issue has been the defense giving up 28-plus points in five games including four of their last five.
Last week, the Seahawks surrendered 434 yards and 34 points in an ugly overtime win over the 2-6 Buccaneers. They allow the seventh most points per game along with giving up the eighth most total yards per game. Clearly this defense needs to step it up if they want a shot on Monday night.
There is no doubt that we are in for a good one Monday night. Two explosive offenses and a heated rivalry matchup makes for a great contest. The question begging to be answered is will the Seahawks defense be able to slow down that powerful 49ers offense. All signs are pointing towards San Francisco striking gold in San Francisco.
Prediction: San Francisco 38, Seattle 13
