Yiru Zhang is an award-winning pianist from China who started playing at the age of 7. Her talent, commitment and mother's persistence, landed her a spot on the Shanghai National Orchestra. Zhang initially played pipa in her band which is one of the many traditional Chinese instruments that makeup a Chinese Orchestra. Zhang shed light on how differently music scores are written in China compared to classical music scores in the US. Her best friend Xutian Cao, who also partakes in the interview, plans on carrying her pipa back to the US after spring break. Though she is dedicated Landscape Engineering Major - she still manages to get away from the noise and make some of her own!
