100 Days ‘Til THON 2020 Celebration Takes Over the HUB
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The countdown to THON 2020 has begun.
In just 100 days, over 40,000 students, supporters and Four Diamonds families will be standing and dancing for 46 hours straight in the Bryce Jordan Center. To celebrate, THON held its annual 100 Days ‘Til THON event Wednesday at the HUB and Old Main Lawn from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Several THON organizations, independent THON dancers and other students involved in the dance marathon joined in on the festivities, which included performances of this year’s line dance, speeches by THON families, live music and hair donations. The yearly event celebrates the hard work that has already been done and recognizes the hard work still to come.
Sam Koon, a senior education major and the media relations leader for THON 2020, emphasized the importance of THON’s year-round initiative.
“THON weekend is not all that we do,” Koon said. “Having the celebration 100 days leading up to THON really reminds people of why we do this all year and why it’s important to get excited for the weekend in support of all our families.”
The event ended at Old Main Lawn for the human picture, where THON organizers stood together to form a word representing one of THON’s many themes or goals. This year, organizers spelled out “LIGHT” to represent the light of the day that the dance celebration will begin.
THON weekend at the BJC will begin Friday, Feb. 21, and end Sunday, Feb. 23.
