UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The 19th annual THON 5K will run Sunday morning. Students, alumni, Four Diamonds families and hundreds more will be running in the annual race with crowds cheering them on along the way.

Runners like Carly Kaschalk, a sophomore Donor and Alumni Relations committee member, are looking forward to their dash across campus for THON.

“It's a great way to get people outside and bring everyone together for supporting the kids,” said Kaschalk.

Carly and hundreds of other runners will begin at 11:30 a.m., a half hour after the children’s race begins. They will then start outside Beaver Stadium before navigating their way through campus.

Events like this would be impossible without student volunteers. The THON 5K captains, Gianna Wilkie and Nate Albert have worked tirelessly since the spring to put this event together. Emily Taylor, the Special Events Director for THON 2020 has been impressed by how these individuals have dedicated their time to THON.

“They have been leaders of this event since they were chosen in April and they have been very vital this experience,” said Taylor. “We get right to work making sure that we are talking to our contacts and solidifying all the different aspects that go into event planning.”

Taylor is excited about the plans her committee has in store this year. The day will be circus themed bearing the slogan, “Dare to be Extraordinary.”

She expects great things from her committee members, runners and even a new musical guest.

“We have a performance by the Brass Cadillacs," Taylor said. "We've done different performers, but this year we're very excited to see them!"

For those who would like to register, you will be able to register outside of Gate A of the Bryce Jordan Center at the Special Events table as early as 8 a.m. Sunday morning.
