Music Speaks

Story posted November 10, 2014 in News by John Dillard

Jon Russell is a senior Engineering major at Penn State, but his passion lies with music. Ever since he picked up the trombone in fourth grade, music has been a large part of his life. As a high school student, Russell joined a ska band where he and up to eight other band members played shows in front of as many as 1,000 people.

His third musical rebirth came when he learned how to communicate emotions through his music, and he decided that he wanted to become more professional with his music. Jon now plays solo Fingerstyle Guitar. He was surprised to find how nervous he become while performing without band members, but he's slowly mastering that skill. After college, Russell plans on furthering his music knowledge by going to graduate school to study acoustic engineering.
