Kevin Kim is a senior in Biomedical Engineering, and that is the only thing that will show on paper from his college years at the Pennsylvania State University. But outside of class, he breaks out the moves that most people are used to seeing on ABC’s dance competition TV show, ‘Dancing with the Stars.’

Kim’s interest in ballroom dancing, especially Latin dancing, started when he watched ‘Dancing with the Stars.’ Upon coming to Penn State Main Campus in August 2013 after transferring from Penn State Abington, he took his first salsa lesson with the Ballroom Dance Club, he said.

“I thought it was really cool to look at,” Kim said. “I thought, ‘Wow! That’s really cool to do.’”

After dancing mainly salsa for a year, he said he wanted to expand into competition style dancing. He joined the Penn State ballroom dance team in spring 2015, and he realized he was doing well, even as a newcomer.

After having only danced a little over a year, Kim now dances at the Gold level in the Latin category, which is the highest level in syllabus style.

Kim said he hopes to continue to dance after college at a dance studio.
