Senior / Public Relations, Broadcast Journalism

Attending Penn State University has been a dream of Alexis’ since she could remember. Going into college, Alexis knew exactly what she wanted to major in: Public Relations. Although roughly 90% of students changed their major through out college, she was set on a communications degree.

As a freshman, Alexis was involved in as many activities as she could handle and met so many friends through all the clubs and organizations she was involved in. Her favorite activities were giving tours to prospective students, writing for a local newsletter, and interviewing students for a campus TV show. She was able to gain critical experience in broadcast journalism when she was the on-camera talent for a webcast that broadcasted the THON dance marathon around the world. She also obtained a PR internship with the football team through the assistant dean for the College of Communications.

Alexis continued to excel by being accepted into the John Curley Sports Journalism program and having had multiple internships through basketball and olympic athletics.  During the summer of 2009, she acted as a LEAP mentor and as a resident assistant for incoming freshman.

In the fall of her junior year, Alexis was offered a Big Ten Network live stream sideline reporting gig with gopsusports.com for the Lady Lion basketball team. Alexis also gained critical sports journalism experience when writing for a gopsusports.com internship. These experiences initiated multiple passions for Alexis.

Although Alexis could have graduated in three-and-a-half years, she decided to take all the necessary classes in order to graduate with a double major in PR and broadcast. Alexis has production, journalism, broadcast, and PR experience that will make her a quadruple threat in the increasingly competitive workforce.

In her free time, Alexis loves playing on IM volleyball teams and working out. She loves reading the paper everyday and enjoys her job around campus. Alexis’ favorite hobby is networking in general; she loves facebook, twitter, and blogging. When Alexis has the time, she volunteers at the State College Special Olympics and participates in various charity events. She continues to write, broadcast, and invest time in new organizations.

In the summer of 2011, Alexis interned with the Washington Redskins, a small PR firm in D.C. and wrote for USA Today College. In the fall, Alexis gained even more experience in the field of PR by working with a student-run PR firm, Happy Valley Communications, and wrote for the popular PR website, PR Daily. She also continued sideline reporting for the BTN while writing for HerCampus Penn State. Alexis got the opportunity of a lifetime when she was chosen to be apart of the first ever Chevy Road Warriors on behalf of PSU Athletics. Adding to her resume tape, she started working for the show ‘Huddle Up’, interviewing former players on the sidelines at every home football game.

Currently Alexis is applying to graduate schools for a masters in journalism. Alexis’ dream job is working in a big city in sports broadcasting while doing freelance public relations and writing.
