Movin’ On – Penn State’s Spring Music Festival is a yearly tradition that takes place on University Park’s campus every Spring. This year the student-operated event celebrated its 40th year of offering a free music festival to celebrate the end of the scholastic year.

Penn State juniors Samantha Metz and Keara Donick are members of the Movin’ On CORE organizing committee. Metz served as the Public Relations Chair this year. Her duties included media relations and executing the marketing plan for the biggest student ran music festival in the country. Donick joined the committee this fall as the Sponsorship Chair where she is responsible for activating partnerships with local, and national companies. Their yearlong efforts of countless planning meetings all lead up the Movin’ On Weekend.

“This doesn’t happen in one day for sure,” Metz said “It’s a lot of planning.” Along with the planning, each member of the committee spends the day before the Festival at the Agriculture Intramural Fields constructing the two stages. “We spent the entire day building the stage, putting up barricades, lights, sounds all went up. We were out for at least 12 hours,” Metz said.

Thousands of Penn State students packed the recreational field to hear the sounds of Lenina Crowne, Air Dubai, Aloe Blacc, Sky Ferreria, Fitz & the Tantrums, and headliner Wiz Khalifa. Members of CORE receive priority seating where they were able to enjoy the show and witness the reactions of the festival’s spectators. “Seeing everyone having a great time at this event that we worked so hard all year to put together for them makes it worth it.” Donick said. “It’s rewarding to see our hard work cumulate into a great show.”
