UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The annual State of State conference was held on Sunday and allowed community members to hear from several different perspectives on various issues impacting Penn State, State College, and even Penn State’s World Campus. The conference’s theme was State of Change.

For those who were not able to attend the event, the conference was live-streamed on Facebook.

Former Penn State soccer player Dani Marks spoke about the difficulties that student-athletes face and how to spark change. He was pleased with how the event turned out.

“It’s really a great way for people to bring up ideas and get a platform to get to speak and people to listen to them, so yeah, it was very exciting overall,” Marks said.

Other speakers at State of State included former Interfraternity Council president John Lord, director of diversity, equity and inclusion for Penn State’s Division of Development and Alumni Relations, Charleon Jeffries, and more.

Laura McKinney, the newly-elected University Park Undergraduate Association president, who also served as one of State of State’s emcees, was happy about what State of State means for the future of this community.

“This is just the perfect event and just anything I could hope for. It gave me kind of a good insight going forward of what I can hope to work with and the people I can reach out to do so,” McKinney said.

Following the State of State event at the State College Theatre, speakers and attendees headed over to Hintz Family Alumni Center, where there were refreshments and a Q-and-A session with the speakers.

Penn State student Liza Buschinski enjoyed the conference’s Q-and-A session.

“I thought it was nice because the speakers were able to dive deeper into their topics and focus on more specific ideas,” Buschinski said.
