Week 9 NFL Recap
Week nine was an exciting week in the NFL. There were many magnificent performances and games that left everyone in awe. There were also lots of interesting storylines that caused a bit of discussion. So, let’s get right into the week nine NFL recap.
Starting things off, on Thursday night we saw a matchup that didn’t get much hype as the 1-7 49ers took on the 1-6 Raiders. The game was a blowout win for San Francisco 34-3. However, there was a particular performance that opened some eye during this game. It came from 49ers third-string quarterback Nick Mullens.
The undrafted rookie from Southern Miss shined in his debut completing 72.7 percent of his passes for 262 yards and three touchdowns. It was a performance that nobody saw coming. Although the Raiders are one the worst teams in the NFL this season, it doesn’t take anything away from how well Mullens played.
Is Nathan Peterman the worst quarterback to ever play in the NFL? Well, after being thrown out on the field again this season against the Chicago Bears, the second-year player out of Pittsburgh threw three more interceptions, increasing his career total to 12, which is remarkable considering he’s only thrown 130 passes in his young career.
After the game, the discussion began: is Nathan Peterman the worst quarterback in NFL history? You can be judge, but for whatever it’s worth the Bills Mafia started a GoFundMe page for Nathan Peterman to retire.
The game of the week was without a question the Rams versus the Saints. There was a lot of hype going into the game and it more than lived up to it. It was a total offensive explosion as the Saints won 45-35. Drew Bress continued his dominance this season as he threw for 346 yards and four touchdowns.
However, the star of the game was wide receiver Michael Thomas, who had 12 receptions for 211 yards and a touchdown. He was unstoppable, which is impressive as he was head-to-head with all-pro cornerback Marcus Peters.
Not mention, Thomas stole the show with his touchdown celebration as he paid tribute to ex-Saints receiver Joe Horn. He mimicked the celebration done by Horn back in 2003 where he hid a cellphone underneath the goal post padding and pretended to call someone.
Another week and another fumble that cost the game for the Green Bay Packers. After Ty Montgomery fumbled on a kickoff the stole Aaron Rodgers’ chance at a comeback effort versus the Rams last week, this week the story was too familiar.
Instead, a different Green Bay running back put the ball on the turf as Aaron Jones fumbled the ball deep into New England territory late in the fourth quarter with the game tied at 17. After this fumble, it all unraveled for the Packers, which ended up losing 31-17 to the Patriots. These two fumbles have put a huge dent on the Packers' season as it will be an uphill battle to make the playoffs. Their current record is just 3-4-1.
So that’s about everything you need to know what happened in week nine of this NFL season. It’s been an exciting season with so many things to watch for as the season moves forward. Let’s hope that week ten is an even better one.
