Spring Career Fairs Coming to Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State students will have several opportunities to meet with companies eager to find future employees.

Every spring, the university hosts multiple career fairs that draw in company representatives from around the world. Students are invited to speak one-on-one with potential employers as well as learn how to interact in a professional setting.

Trent Goss, a senior majoring in agribusiness management, has gone to career fairs the past two years and says he believes they have many uses.

“Not only is it a great way to find your future employment after your collegiate career is done, but it’s also a great way to network with other companies,” Goss said.

Connor Dunleavy, a senior majoring in supply chain management, secured both an internship and a full-time position from career fairs.

“I’ve met new people and learned about different industries that I didn’t even think I would even consider working in,” Dunleavy said. “But after talking to these people, it was like a new door opened for me.”

Alysa Schappell, a junior majoring in biology, says career fairs may not be beneficial for everyone.

“I believe that it is beneficial for some students, but not all, because if you are one those students applying to larger companies or corporations, they are speaking with and interviewing thousands of people,” Schappell said. “They’re not going to necessarily remember your small face in such a large crowd.”

Throughout the rest of the semester, thousands of students will attend career fairs with hopes of taking the next step in their career path. College-specific career fairs will be hosted February through May.
