UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Coronavirus is a respiratory disease originating from Wuhan, China. To date, it has infected 45,000 people worldwide and killed more than 1,100 humans. So far, there have been 13 diagnosed cases of the virus found in citizens of the U.S.

The Center for Disease Control has issued a travel warning, urging people to limit all travel to China until the outbreak is controlled. The disease has created ghost towns in China, as citizens are urged to avoid contact and crowds.

Student’s here at University Park are taking preventative measures to make sure they don’t get sick. The University Health Services has sold out of face masks as students have rushed to secure these preventative masks. I was able to talk to Camerin Gallagher, a Sophomore studying Biobehavioral Health, and ask him how he is preventing illness.

“Make sure to get your flu shot”, said Gallagher. “Cover your mouth when you sneeze and cough wash your hands, basic stuff you need to do that keeps everyone safe.”

I asked another student, freshman Connor Turk, the methods he uses to ensure he does not get sick.

“I take vitamin C every day”, said Turk. “I got sick three times last semester and didn’t get sick once this semester, it works wonders.”

Following the level 3 travel warning implemented by the CDC, Penn State has restricted all University affiliated travel to and from China. The University is keeping the health of their student’s in mind as they try and limit the spread of this infectious disease. So far there has been no cases of the coronavirus in Pennsylvania.

If you are feeling any symptoms of illness, the University urges students to get checked at Health Services to ensure the safety of yourself, and your fellow students.
