Penn State Students React to Nittany Lions’ Cotton Bowl Bid
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — After an impressive 10-2 regular season, Penn State was awarded a bid to play in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas.
The Nittany Lions, which finished 10th in the final College Football Playoff rankings, will take on the 17th-ranked Memphis Tigers, which is coming off an American Athletic Conference championship victory over Cincinnati.
The announcement that Penn State would remain below Wisconsin in the rankings disappointed many fans, especially after Wisconsin lost to the Ohio State Buckeyes for the second time this season.
Although the Cotton Bowl is a New Year’s Six Bowl, many Penn State students believed that the Nittany Lions should’ve taken Wisconsin’s place in the Rose Bowl.
Freshman Tyler Smith was upset with the decision, but he is already focused on next season.
“Penn State should’ve gotten in the Rose Bowl this year, but it won’t matter next year when they’re playing in the playoff,” Smith said.
Freshman Aman Amora was upset with the placement of the teams for all of the bowl games in general.
“I personally believe [Penn State] should be in the Rose Bowl,” Amora said. “I believe the College Football Playoff committee did not do a good job of selecting the teams for the proper bowl games they should be playing.”
The Penn State Nittany Lions and the Memphis Tigers will play on Dec. 28 at noon. The Cotton Bowl will be the first of the major bowl games to kick off.
