Penn State Players in the NFL: Week 1

Story posted September 11, 2018 in CommRadio, Sports by Nick Mazone

With week one in the books, it’s an opportunity to look back at how some ex-Nittany Lions played in the first game of the NFL season. There were a lot of good performances by former Nittany Lions who had noteworthy performances.

Saquon Barkley:

Barkley shinned in his debut. What else would you expect from him? Barkley carved up the mighty Jaguars defense rushing for 106 yards on just 18 carries including a 68-yard touchdown. He also added two receptions for 22 yards on the day. It was an impressive performance by a guy who is expected to do big things at the next level. It’s easy to see why Barkley is already being considered as one of the best young players in the NFL right now.

Allen Robinson:

After tearing his ACL in the first game of 2017, Allen Robinson took his talents from Jacksonville to the Windy City to pair up with young quarterback Mitch Trubisky. In his first game with the Bears, Robinson finished the game with four catches for 61 yards. It was a good game from Robinson considering he is coming off a serious knee injury and should continue to improve as the season continues.

Chris Godwin

After a very quiet rookie season, Chris Godwin is looking to have a major surge in his second season. In his first game of the season, Godwin made his presence felt. He finished the game with three catches with 41 yards and a touchdown. Godwin is hoping to have a big year and could become a go-to-guy for the Buccaneers after making a few big plays this past Sunday. It will be interesting to see what role Godwin can carve out for himself as the season goes on.

Adrian Amos:

Another Bear and former Nittany Lion had a good start to the season as well. After a huge season a year ago Adrian Amos had a solid game to start his 2018 season. Amos finished the game with 5 tackles and was around all over the field against a strong Packers offense. Amos has established himself as one of the most underrated safeties in the NFL and he looked very good in the opening game of the 2018 season.

Robbie Gould:

Robbie Gould has been one of the better kickers in the NFL for over a decade and after having arguably his best season as a pro last year he started the 2018 season without missing a beat. He was three for three in the game with a long of 42 yards. Gould, the all-time leading scorer in Bears franchise history, looks to have another great season in what has been a really good career.

So there you have it. Penn Staters already have been making plays for their team’s just one game into the season. It will certainly be exciting to see what these guys and many other Nittany Lions in the NFL will do as the football season progresses.
