Penn State Players in the NFL: Week 10

Story posted November 14, 2018 in CommRadio, Sports by Matthew White

Former Penn State football players that are currently playing in the NFL continued to have a strong showing last week. The list of players that had the biggest contributions last weekend are as follows:

Saquon Barkley, RB, New York Giants

The second overall pick from last year’s draft continued to make his case for the rookie of the year by leading the Giants to a game-winning drive against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night.

Barkley led the team with 20 rushes for 67 yards. Despite not reaching the end zone, Barkley also helped in the passing game with four receptions for 33 yards.

Allen Robinson, WR, Chicago Bears

Allen Robinson continues to have a stronger impact in the Bears lineup, leading the team with six receptions for 133 yards last weekend. Robinson also connected with quarterback Mitch Trubisky by reaching the end zone twice. Robinson’s production continues to rise with his new squad as the Bears improved to 6-3.

Mike Gesicki, TE, Miami Dolphins

The second-round pick from the NFL draft last year has struggled to make an impact in Miami’s offense but had one catch for five yards in the Dolphins loss to the Green Bay Packers. The 6 feet 6 inches tall tight end continues to help the Miami running game while also being a reliable receiver. He has recorded 17 receptions and 151 yards this year.

Chris Goodwin, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Despite the team scoring only three points last week against the Washington Redskin, Goodwin had another strong outing with 7 receptions for 103 yards. The sophomore receiver has had a solid year by collecting nearly 500 yards and averaging 13 yards per catch.

Robbie Gould, K, San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers' placekicker continued his excellence in Monday night’s loss to the Giants. Gould connected on all three of his field goals with the longest being from 53 yards.

Gould’s leg is imperative for the 49ers success as the team ranks 27th in the NFL in red zone efficiency. Gould owns the streak for the most consecutive field goals made in 49ers history at 33.

Donovan Smith, LT, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Donovan Smith has been one of the most resilient and reliable players in the NFL as he has played in 58 games in his four-year career. He had another strong outing last week by giving up 0 sacks.

Honorable Mentions:

The Nittany Lions have several defensive players who made contributions for their teams last week. Grant Haley racked up two tackles in the Giants win. Additionally, safety Adrian Amos had two tackles to help the Bears rout the Lions.

Cameron Wake continues to be a dominant veteran in the NFL as he totaled three tackles last week. Despite the loss to the Browns, Jack Crawford also had two tackles for the Atlanta Falcons.

Tight end Jesse James only had one catch for the Pittsburgh Steelers last weekend and helped the Steelers destroy the Carolina Panthers.
