UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Ana Maria Archila, a sexual assault survivor that confronted Senator Jeff Flake in the elevator during the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearings, spoke at Penn State on Monday.

The Gender Equity Center at Penn State has been collaborating with various campus entities to feature diverse programming since March is National Women’s History Month.

Junior Amanda Mapel attended a speaker last week that the Gender Equity Center held called ‘Unpacking White Feminism.”

“They handed out a flyer and this speaker seemed interesting,” Mapel said.

Archila has become a leading voice for racial justice, economic justice and immigrant rights in New York and nationally.

She confronted Jeff Flake in the elevator along with another sexual assault survivor and played that video during her talk.

Archila continued to talk about her views with women in politics and how they are respected or lack thereof.

“It is right there, we are not taught that women’s anger is essential to the transformation of our country because it threatens the power structure that exists right now,” Archila said.

Archila plays a hefty role as the co-executive director of the Center for Popular Democracy.

CPD and its affiliates have played a major role in cities as places for policy innovation that advances immigrant rights, workplace justice, and economic opportunity for communities of color.
