UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Matt Ford, the CEO of Vignette Global, spoke at the Foster Auditorium in Paterno Library at University Park on Monday.

Ford’s focus during his talk was the power of storytelling and empathy.

“It’s something that we’ve been doing since eating and sleeping and finding shelter," Ford said. "It’s a core part of our survival."

Everyone connects with relationships, since they are always a fundamental story that everyone somehow connects with.

“We are social animals and in order to connect with each other we have to communicate with each other, share ideas, share lessons. Part of that is to understand each other,” Ford said.

Ford also mentioned the Kuleshov effect. This is a mental phenomenon by which viewers derive more meaning from the interaction of two sequential shots than from a single shot in isolation.

Throughout his speech, Ford highlighted specifically on the ideas of visual storytelling, what triggers empathy and the internet’s role as it changed storytelling.
