State College, Pa -- The Urban Gaming Club hosted an all-day Humans vs. Zombies game from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. last Saturday. Members split into two teams and tried to achieve the specific goals set for each mission by utilizing Nerf Guns.

Teams sat down in the Willard Building and planned strategies for the round before exiting and scattering throughout select parts of campus.
There were five missions total for the day, each lasting around 45 minutes. Some of the participants had been in the club for years, while others were playing for their first time.

Justin Keller, vice president of the Urban Gaming Club, said that the event was a great way for students to get their minds off of exams.

“We try to relieve the stress that they have going through their daily lives by running around and flinging foam with Nerf blasters,” Keller said. “You know, we do just completely childish things just to kind of help people destress a little bit.”

The Urban Gaming Club also runs other events, including capture the flag in the HUB during Late Nights. They also host a larger annual invitational in the spring that invites students from all over the world to play. They get anywhere from 400 to 500 students to play what the club president calls a “very fancy game of tag.”

Daniel Downes, president of the Urban Gaming Club, said that the event was a great way for students to build community.

“I think it really is the community that is the biggest selling point for us,” Downes said. “Yeah, we get to run around, you know, we get to shoot each other with Nerf Blasters and all that, but it’s the friends that you make that is the biggest benefit.”

The Urban Gaming Club will be hosting its next HUB Late Night event on Nov. 10 at 10 p.m.
